Quick version, if you'd rather skip the reading: at a legit OnlyFans agency, real, trained people chat with your fans, in your style and within your boundaries. At a bad one, it's either an overwhelmed intern juggling three accounts at once or an AI bot firing off generic messages at your fans. If nothing else, you'll notice the difference in your revenue.
If you want the full picture of how this works in practice: enjoy the read.
The press is almost always wrong. This time, not entirely.
When the media writes about OnlyFans agencies, it usually reads like a mix of crime thriller and con job. "Digital pimping." "Fake chats." Headlines like that are, of course, a quick way to pull in readers.
The thing is, most journalists who write these pieces know about as much about running a normal business as we know about building rockets. Which is zero. It's all about headlines and attention, rarely about facts. How an agency actually works financially, why chatting exists in the first place and what separates good chatting from bad: you won't find any of that in there.
But (and it almost hurts to write this): on one point, they're right. A lot of agencies cut serious corners on chatting and on training their chatters. And it shows. Fans feel like they've been played, and in the end, you feel it in your bank account.
So who actually does the chatting at an agency?
Honest answer: at pretty much every agency, a team of chatters handles the conversations with your fans. That's no secret, and there's nothing shady about it. Once you hit a certain size, you simply can't answer every message yourself while also creating content, posting and having a life. That's exactly why so many creators decide to work with an agency in the first place.
The question isn't whether someone is writing for you. The question is who, and how.
And there are basically three options:
- Trained chatters who know your style, respect your boundaries, know what they're doing and, above all, speak your fans' language.
- Untrained chatters who got picked up somewhere, start after two days of "onboarding" and treat your fans like call center customers.
- AI bots that reply fully automatically. Cheap and fast, but not even remotely charming.
Why poor training at agencies costs you money
A fan who spends money on you doesn't just want content. That's everywhere. He wants to feel understood. He wants someone who actually engages with him, remembers things and flirts with him, instead of just sending price lists and treating him like a human piggy bank.
A poorly trained chatter does the exact opposite:
- Pushes paid content way too early and way too often, so the fan feels like a cash machine.
- Mixes up fans, names and preferences.
- Writes things you'd never say, often in clumsy, broken language on top of that.
- Ignores your boundaries and promises things you don't do.
The result: fans drop off, subscriptions lapse, and at some point the agency tells you that you're not performing anymore. Even though the problem is on their end.
We had exactly that case: a creator with several accounts whose previous agency brought in less revenue every single month. The agency's explanation? It was the creator's fault, and the content's. In reality, their chatters had been mixing up names across accounts the whole time, throwing content at fans and never engaging with anyone personally. No wonder revenue crashed. After a restructure and a much more personal approach to chatting, we managed to bring in three to four times the revenue the previous agency had made, within three months. And chatting was one of the biggest levers.
The AI problem: cheap, but a real risk
Some agencies now rely on AI chatting software that answers fans fully automatically. Sounds efficient at first. And it is, for the agency. Not for you.
First: your account is on the line. OnlyFans' Terms of Service prohibit using bots and other automated means to interact on the platform, and that includes chatting with your fans. A fully automated AI chat falls right into that category. That puts your account at real risk of being banned. And it's your account, not the agency's.
Second: fans can tell. AI usually writes with perfect spelling, comes across way too polished and, no matter how well it's trained, keeps making mistakes no human ever would.
Yes, AI is cheaper than real staff. But if you cut costs in the wrong place, you almost always end up earning less. The fan feels scammed and doesn't buy as easily anymore. Bottom line: the so-called savings actually bring in less money.
How we do it
We could go full marketing mode about how great we are. We won't. Here's just a transparent look at how it works with us:
- Real people chatting: Only trained chatters talk to your fans.
- In the right language: Our chatters write at a native level, depending on where you're based and who your fan audience is.
- Training that actually works: We select chatters through a long application process with multiple stages. After that, we train them for several weeks in sales psychology, conversation skills and style before they're allowed anywhere near an account.
- Your style: Before anyone writes for you, our chatters are trained to chat exactly the way you do.
- Your boundaries are fixed: What you don't do doesn't get sold, and it doesn't get hinted at either. It stays a hard line.
- You stay in the loop: You can read along at any time and see exactly what's being written in your name.
How to spot a good chatting team
Ask your current or future agency straight up:
- Who exactly is chatting with my fans, people or software?
- How long are chatters trained?
- How many accounts does one chatter handle at the same time?
- Can I read along?
- What happens if a chatter ignores my boundaries?
If they dodge these questions, you've got your answer.
The bottom line
The press loves to exaggerate, but when it comes to chatting, it hits a nerve: a lot of agencies cut corners exactly where it costs the most, on the people who talk to your fans every single day. Add an AI bot on top of that, and they're risking not just your revenue but, in the worst case, your account.
Real, trained people cost more, but they're irreplaceable. And that's exactly why they make you more money.
